The Talent Code: Greatness Isn’t Born. It’s Grown. Here’s How. by Daniel Coyle offers an interesting premise, based on research of what are called talent hot beds, which are places that seem to produce a mysterious number of great talents such as the Septien Music School in Dallas Texas that has produced many pop stars. Nightline on ABC did an in-depth story on this last year and I found it fascinating. The overall scientific premise is that you can actually train your brain to develop talent by doing the following:
1. Practice A lot! – The old adage, “Practice makes perfect,” still makes a lot of sense and the more you do something the better you will get at it.
2. Find a great coach – Great coaches know how to break down skills whether it is singing or playing football into small steps. They understand the mechanics of the skill they are teaching as well as knowing how to motivate people.
3, Focus your concentration – Talented people can find a zone once they are skilled that will allow them to leverage their knowledge and unleash the subtleties of their talent.
